This Higher Diploma of Alternative Therapy Course will teach you the many health benefits of alternative medicine and holistic healing, exploring natural skincare remedies, traditional Chinese medicine, the special healing power of herbs, and the world of alternative therapies.

If you’re considering becoming a Master Herbalist, Reiki Practitioner, or Holistic Skin Care Specialist, then this course is perfect for you. You will gain an excellent understanding of the different types of complementary medicines, such as massage therapy and acupuncture, as well as how to incorporate holistic foods and vitamins into your diet.

It covers practical knowledge that can be applied in a real-life context, helping you to gain the confidence and skills to start a holistic business of your own. Learn how to improve your own mental wellbeing as well as your clients’, and try an alternative, natural approach to balancing mind, body and soul!

Program Outline
To receive a Honor Diploma of Alternative Therapy, students must complete 30 credits, however, there is no compulsory subjects. Students can choose the course described below in a flexible way.

The length of this program is approximately 12 months.

Courses Content

Alternative Healing Methods (3 credits)
This course is an introduction to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and healing practices that are used in combination with conventional medicine and treatment. The five categories of CAM will be introduced and include: alternative medicinal systems, manipulative therapies, mind-body interventions, biological based treatments and energy therapies.

Reflexology (3 credits)
Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet and hands which correspond to different body organs and systems to provide a beneficial effect on a person's general health. Learn the history of Reflexology, examine a map of the feet and hands, and discover how to apply Reflexology in your massage practice to relieve tension in the body.

Aromatherapy (3 credits)
Aromatherapy uses essential oils as an adjunct therapy in combination with multiple styles of massage therapy. Identifying the need and purpose of the modality is addressed as well as when to practice the technique based on indications and contraindications from the client's health history. Aromatherapy is practiced to enhance the therapeutic and relaxation properties of massage therapy. The therapeutic uses of 18 essential oils are explored and the students are provided the opportunity to practice blending the oils to enhance therapeutic benefits and induce a deeper relaxation response for the client.

Chair Massage (3 credits)
Learn the fundamentals of chair massage and how to utilize and adapt current massage skills for performing seated massage. Explore ways to market a business and introduce touch to the public through seated massage.

Reiki (5 credits)
Reiki is an energy modality used as an adjunct therapy in combination with multiple styles of massage therapy. Identifying the need and purpose of the modality is addressed as well as ways in which to practice the technique with other methods during the individualized session. Reiki addresses the bioelectric circuits of the human energy system and provides a modality for identifying when regions of the body may need additional focus during the session.

Acupressure (3 credits)
Explore the acupressure system of energy locks for the 12 meridians in this introduction to their location and usage. Learn a system for addressing these energy locks and the symptoms of blockage along the meridian lines. Practice palpation of the 26 locations on each side of the body and simple release techniques that can be incorporated into massage.

Lymphatic Massage (2 credits)
Learn about the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, common pathologies related to this system and the indications, contraindications and precautions necessary for massage therapists to be aware of. When massage is indicated, discover the benefits of lymphatic massage, what type of techniques are appropriate for each individual client, and whether or not the student has the necessary training to perform those techniques or should refer the client to other professionals.

Tuning Fork (5 credits)
In this course, students will learn how to use Tuning forks, how to heal, repair, and do therapeutic work. This course will guide you into sonpuncture techniques, bioenergetic field, muscle relaxation, balancing emotions, past traumas, childhood experiences, anxiety, stress and other mental and physical illness.

Japanese Small Face Treatment (5 credits)
A small face with V-shape jawline is considered the epitome of beauty by most Asian standards. Japanese Small Face Therapy is the non-invasive and natural treatment to contour and slim your face without surgery. There is no downtime and side effects from this facial as the treatment is 100% natural and developed by Japanese facial experts.

Gentle Manual Therapy (5 credits)
Manual therapy is a technique that involves gentle manipulation of your joints and soft tissue by a skilled physical therapist. It's a more hands-on approach that improves joint range of motion and flexibility, relaxes tight muscles, and improves circulation to injured tissue to enhance healing.

Feng Shui (3 credits)
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that promotes channelling heavenly and earthly energies into our homes. This is an intuitive and heartfelt approach to Feng Shui, and for the beginner it will open a door to the journey of self discovery, personal, and planetary healing. For the more experienced, it provides a window through which to see Feng Shui in a new and inspiring way. This course can be used to complement many other forms of healing.

CranioSacral Therapy (5 credits)
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Manual therapy of the Pelvis and Sacrum (3 Credits)
This is a course designed to teach therapists accurate diagnosis and treatment skills for people experiencing sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The course format uses effective learning models so therapists will be able to utilize the system immediately. Palpation skills and biomechanics of movement are emphasized for proper diagnosis. The course will include assessment and treatment of sacral dysfunction including compound sacral problems. Assessment and treatment of pelvic dysfunction including vertical sheers, rotations, flares, horizontal shears. Hypermobility will also be discussed and assessed. Treatment techniques will include muscle energy technique, sustained Force loading and joint mobilization.

Animal Reiki (3 credits)
To provide the most effective healing to animals, it is paramount that you understand their energy systems. From the Animal Reiki Diploma Course you will learn about animal spiritual energy, chakras and meridian channels, and explore the energy that we share with animals.

Crystal Healing (5 credits)
Crystals such as sapphire and rose quartz are made up of microscopic molecules that are arranged into highly ordered structures to form crystal lattices that extend in all directions. ‘Crystallization’ is the formation of such crystals and their scientific study is referred to as 'crystallography'. Crystals have been used for millennia as they have long been seen to contain centered energy that can be used for healing mental or physical ailments and disorders. This course examines various crystals and gemstones and lays out their healing attributes and how to use them on the body. Some crystals are believed to possess some sort of spiritual energy that can be harnessed to communicate with the ‘higher self’ or even higher beings and this course explores this phenomenon.
