Dr. Patrick Camilleri

Dr. Patrick Camilleri is a distinguished academic currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Leadership for Learning and Innovation at the University of Malta. With a strong academic foundation, he holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) from the University of Sheffield, where he specialized in Internet Based Research, Digital Transformation and organizational science. His previous degrees include a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Science Education, also from the University of Sheffield, and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed. Hons) from the University of Malta, focusing on Theoretical Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, he earned a Master Online Teaching Certificate from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Camilleri’s extensive professional experience includes a significant role as a Digital Pedagogist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta since 2009, where he has led courses in Technology Mediated Learning, Digital Literacies, and Pedagogies. He has also developed a Master’s Program in e-Learning and Management, aimed at preparing educators and leaders embrace educational transformation and new digital practices. Prior to this, he served as a visiting lecturer, emphasizing the use of the Internet for teaching and learning.

A prolific contributor to the field of education, Dr. Camilleri has held various editorial positions and has served as a reviewer for numerous academic journals, including Informatics in Education, in Computers and Education and the British Journal of Educational Technology. His research interests are centered around the integration of technology in education, digital leadership and AI for education. He has coordinated several initiatives related to eLearning and the creation of positive digital learning environments in educational settings. He has also written and published a now highly cited review of the book by Joseph E Aoun, Robot-proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

Recently, Dr. Camilleri was awarded the Honorary Professorship of Practice Award by the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary & Higher Education (QAHE) in collaboration with Kennedy University. This recognition underscores his commitment to enhancing educational quality through innovative practices and effective leadership.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Camilleri actively engages with the community through various educational frameworks and committees, contributing to local strategies for digital literacy and innovation in education. He frequently shares his insights through radio and television discussions, focusing on the integration of technology in educational contexts.
